As you approach Mount Baker on the Mount Baker Scenic Byway one of breathtaking sights along the way is Picture Lake. You can pull right off the road and easily access a flat easy walking trail around the lake.

We were only there to do some photography at sunset but if you have more time this area is spectacular for hiking. There are a variety of options easy to hard, with 360 views you are guaranteed a beautiful hike.

Artist Ridge to Huntoon Point is 1.2 miles out and back with only 200 ft elevation gain- an easy hike.
The Chain Lakes Loop is approximately 6.2 miles long, offering stunning views of surrounding mountains and lakes. It’s a moderate trail that allows you to explore lush forests and colorful alpine meadows, often frequented by visitors of all ages.
Best Photography Spots Around Mount Baker
For photography enthusiasts, Mount Baker is a treasure trove of scenic spots. In addition to Reflection Lake and Artist Point, consider adding these locations to your itinerary:
Picture Lake: Obviously this is number one! Such beautiful spots all around the lake for landscape photography or for a photo session with family or couples photography!
Highwood Lake: Right by Picture lake this spot offers beautiful views with less crowds. Still a great options to snap some pictures of Mt. Shuksan. Although it is less accessible as you have park on the side of the road.
Mount Baker Ski Area: Not just for winter sports, the scenic views here are captivating year-round. The snow-capped peaks provide an amazing backdrop for photographs.
Artist Point: You can walk down any trail up at Artist point and get near 360 stunning views. It is quite literally a photographers playground.
